Expertise: If you don’t understand, you can’t translate. Translation involves much more than general knowledge of two languages. In particular, texts involving specialized domains require subject expertise. What subject matter are you familiar with?
Linguist: Proficiency in two languages is important but does not necessarily guarantee translation competence. Not all individuals who exhibit language proficiency have the ability to choose a perfect expression in the target language that both fully conveys and best matches the meaning intended in the source language for the audience and purpose of the translation. Do you play language magic cube well?
Experience: Years of experience as a translator working with: 1)the language pair, 2)subject filed competence, 3)task-type competence: software UI, html/xml, DTP tagged-format version, 4)text-type competence: user manual, PR release, Website...More detailed, will we know more about you.
Commitment: Awkward translation is an insult to the end users. Translation projects are very detailed endeavors, and there is little room for miscommunication, mistrust, and misunderstanding - and any of the three could cost much time and money. Translations are highly detailed, time-consuming projects that require everyone’s commitment to be in absolutely peak form. How do you prove your commitment?
